Serving Anaheim Water Systems Since 1978. Testing, Repair, & Installation You Can Count On.
Keeping your water supply protected means keeping your backflow prevention assembly tested, certified, and working correctly. Water Heater Man has served Anaheim residential and commercial properties since 1978, and our factory-trained technicians bring the same water system focus to backflow prevention that we apply to every service we offer. Whether you need annual backflow testing, a full inspection, a repair, or a new assembly installed, we handle it for properties of all sizes across Anaheim and the surrounding Orange County communities.
Backflow occurs when water reverses direction in a plumbing system, which can allow contaminants from irrigation lines, fire suppression systems, or commercial equipment connections to enter the potable water supply. Properties with irrigation systems, pools, fire sprinkler connections, or commercial water system connections are among those most commonly required to maintain a tested backflow prevention assembly under Anaheim Public Utilities cross-connection control requirements. Annual testing isn’t optional. It’s a city mandate.

Many services that test backflow assemblies treat it as one task among dozens. At Water Heater Man, backflow prevention is part of a focused water system practice. Our technicians work on water heaters, water softeners, and filtration systems daily, which means they approach your backflow assembly with a thorough understanding of how the whole system functions together. If your test uncovers a water quality concern beyond the device itself, we can address it in the same service relationship.
Factory-trained technicians bring diagnostic accuracy that matters when a device is close to failure or has already failed. When an assembly fails testing, we can repair and retest it the same visit, so your documentation can reflect a passing result without a return appointment. Our pricing is often more cost-effective than traditional service providers, and our 24/7/365 availability means we’re reachable for both scheduled annual tests and urgent backflow failures. Water Heater Man was founded in 1978 by a father and son, and personal accountability has been part of how we operate ever since. Se habla español.

Anaheim Backflow Compliance Requirements
Anaheim Public Utilities (APU) is the responsible water authority for most properties within city limits, and it enforces annual testing of all backflow prevention assemblies under the statewide cross-connection control standard CCCPH §3.3.3(b), which took effect July 1, 2024. Testers must hold a current Orange County Health Care Agency certification and a valid City of Anaheim Business License. If your tester doesn’t meet both requirements, your results can’t be accepted.
How Test Results Are Submitted
Results must be submitted electronically through the SwiftComply portal. Anaheim no longer accepts test reports by mail or email. A photo of the assembly taken during the test is required with every submission, and completed reports must also go to the Orange County Health Care Agency.
What Happens If You Fall Out of Compliance
If an assembly goes untested or fails, Anaheim Utilities issues two to three escalating notices over a 60 to 90-day period. After that window, service termination is possible, and continued non-compliance can result in administrative citations under the Anaheim Municipal Code. Compliance responsibility rests with the property owner, not the utility.
What a Water Heater Man Backflow Service Visit Covers
Before any work begins, our technicians inspect the backflow prevention assembly and the surrounding system to identify the root cause of any issue. That step matters because replacing a device without understanding why it failed can lead to repeat problems. Testing involves shutting off the water supply, checking the assembly under varying pressure conditions, and verifying that check valves and seals are blocking reverse flow as designed.
Assembly Types We Work With
Device type depends on the hazard classification of the connection. Reduced pressure zone (RPZ) assemblies are typically required for high-hazard connections such as commercial food service, chemical handling, and medical facilities. Double check valve assemblies are common for fire sprinkler systems and moderate-hazard connections. Our technicians work with both.
Repairs, Retesting & Documentation
If the assembly fails during testing, we can repair it on-site and retest the same visit so your submitted documentation can reflect a passing result. If contamination is detected, the system should be flushed and retested before the report is filed. Once a passing result is confirmed, we submit the completed test report and required assembly photo to APU through the SwiftComply portal. For properties that don’t yet have an assembly or need a replacement, we handle installation as well.

How Backflow Contaminates Your Water Supply
Water distribution systems are designed to maintain consistent pressure that keeps water flowing from the main supply into homes and businesses. Two conditions can disrupt that flow. Backsiphonage happens when a sudden drop in main supply pressure causes water to reverse direction, drawing contaminants from connected equipment or landscape systems back into the potable supply. Backpressure happens when elevated pressure inside a property’s water system pushes water backward into the public main.
Either condition can introduce toxins, heavy metals, bacteria, fertilizers, or chemicals into drinking water. Most contaminants aren’t visible, which means a supply can be compromised without any obvious sign at the tap. Backflow prevention assemblies are installed to ensure water flows in one direction only, isolating the potable supply from any connected system that could introduce contamination.
Which Anaheim Properties Require Backflow Prevention
Residential properties with irrigation systems, lawn sprinklers, or landscape connections are among the most common requiring a tested backflow prevention assembly in Anaheim. Commercial properties, restaurants, food service facilities, and buildings with chemical handling or medical equipment typically require reduced pressure zone assemblies due to higher hazard classifications assigned to those connections.
Properties with fire sprinkler systems face a dual compliance obligation. Cross-connection control testing under CCCPH §3.3.3(b) and fire department inspection under NFPA 25 are separate processes, and passing a fire inspection does not satisfy Anaheim Public Utilities reporting requirements. Both must be completed independently.
Anaheim Utilities does send reminder notices, but the compliance obligation rests with the property owner. Booking a test 30 to 45 days before your certificate expires gives enough time to complete any necessary repairs and retest before the deadline if the assembly doesn’t pass on the first attempt.
